Black Belt Attitude: Self Awareness

Each week we discuss a Black Belt Attitude topic with the kids in our Warrior Talk. This week the topic is Self Awareness. Please pass this on to as many people as you can. Like dropping a pebble in a pond, the ripples can have a significant effect on someone else’s life.

Your work for this week is to be mindful when and how you interact with family, friends, co-workers, other students in the dojo, even strangers. Our thoughts, our words, our actions all have an impact on those around us. Being aware of your own space and the effect you can have on others is one of the first steps to self awareness.

We’ve all heard the old saying think before you speak, but how often do we actually do it? How often do we really think about the impact our words and actions can have on others? Ask yourself are you truly aware of how you are impacting other’s space; have you even realised that you entered their space? What happens when someone enters your space? Do you immediately react out of ego, or do you pause and respond calmly based on the needs of the situation?

Like everything in martial arts, this is a constant practice.

KID’S GRADING
Our next kid’s Grading is now less than a week away this Sunday May 26 at the Subiaco PCYC. Please note the Grading Register is now closed. Good luck to everyone going for their new belts. Parents please make sure your children attend the correct group for their grading.

A reminder that full uniforms are required for all gradings, no t-shirts to be worn.

Parents – if you don’t receive an email today confirming the Grading times for your child please contact us ASAP.

When: Sunday May 26
Bright Stars (5-8 yrs) – ALL LEVELS: 9:00 to 9:30 am
Super/All Stars (9-14 yrs) – ALL LEVELS: 9.40 to 10.20 am

The cost is 50.00 cash payable on the day.

Parents – celebrate the grading achievement with your child, make a big thing of each achievement no matter how small. Work with them when they fall or don’t quite make the mark, let them know that that is okay too, they are finding their feet. Win, lose, pass, fail, it is better to be a part of it than to have never had a go.

You can also download a copy of the Grading sheet and notes we use to grade your child, available here. This is directly from our Trainer’s Manual and is a great resource to help them understand what we look for when we grade them.

As always family and friends are more than welcome to come along and enjoy watching the Grading.

For those that aren’t eligible for this grading, our end of term grading is currently scheduled for Sunday June 30.

IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR PARENTS
The PCYC has asked us to remind you that the gymnastics equipment is NOT to be used by any children or parents at any time. A cornerstone of martial arts is respect. This includes respect for ourselves, others, and other’s space. Therefore, please respect the other tenants at our locations and not use or play on their equipment, and clean up your rubbish after yourself. Thanks in advance.
