Black Belt Attitude: Success

“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed” ― Michael Jordan

Each week we discuss a Black Belt Attitude topic with the kids in our Warrior Talk. This week the topic is Success. Please pass this on to as many people as you can. Like dropping a pebble in a pond, the ripples can have a significant effect on someone else’s life.

Success means different things to different people, and as we get older and hopefully wiser it leads to a simpler, more profound way of living. It doesn’t necessarily have to mean winning, small improvements and steady progress will help you to keep moving forward on your own path.

In your martial arts training there will be peaks and troughs, times of self doubt. What matters is how you respond to these situations, and that you continue to walk your own path. Train consistently, through the ups and downs, and just keep chipping away. Be careful of distractions or the need for more, this will give rise to impatience … all that you need is right where you are.

Ultimately, the greatest success is to be yourself, express yourself honestly and have faith in the person you know you are.

DON’T STOP NOW
As we move towards Winter and the cold and wet days start to set in, the temptation to slacken off your training will grow. We’ve all been there, but now is exactly the time to ramp things up. Make a commitment to yourself that you’ll train at least once every week. If you do miss a session though, don’t beat yourself up about it. Let it go, keep moving forward and just try to make it to the next class.
